Many of you know that my son, Mitchell, was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in December 2015 at the ripe young age of 20. He is an inspiration to me on how well he has handled this new challenge in his life.
For the past few years, we have been getting involved with the Can Do MS organization. In May 2019, we went to Atlanta to participate in the Can Do MS program. WHAT AN AMAZING EVENT!!! The program has had a tremendous effect on Mitchell and his desire to be the healthiest he can be. I have personally witnessed the transition of patients and their ability to live their fullest lives after participating in the Can Do program. This program is provided to patients and their support partners at no cost to them (other than transportation to the event) and this fundraising event directly contributes to this amazing program.
Can Do MS was originally the Jimmie Huega foundation. Jimmie Huega competed in the 1968 Olympics in ski racing despite experiencing vision problems and numbness in his extremities beginning in 1967. In 1970, he received an official diagnosis of MS. He was 26 and at the peak of his skiing career.
